Vision

We want a world that works for all, where Life on this earth can thrive.

We are working for a world where everyone can live in dignity and freedom, the diversity and creativity of humans totally welcomed.

Our vision is for social systems to be wholly transformed, redirected from goals of profit and accumulation towards meeting everyone's needs well. We want radically democratic communities and societies, where everyone has agency and our collective decision making benefits from integrating diverse perspectives.

Our vision is of a world where we move together through the challenges we face, where our collective power is flowing towards creating the world we want, day by day.

Purpose

Our part in moving us towards this vision, is to provide facilitation support that enables building collective power. There are two main strands to our purpose:

  • Movement Building - supporting social movements to become more powerful through navigating conflict effectively, making decisions collaboratively in ways that integrate differences, developing ways of working together that reflect our values and purpose, and working for next level strategy that is about building the power we need and using it wisely to transform whole systems.

  • Radical Democracy - creating the decision making structures we need to move collaboratively through the crises we face towards a world that works for all.

History

Navigate began in 2004 as Seeds for Change Oxford, part of a network along with Seeds for Change Lancaster. In 2016 we became Navigate. Our strategy has developed over time, but we are always building on our twenty years of experience supporting grassroots activist groups and campaigns, working for social and environmental justice.

At the beginning of 2024, Kathryn Tulip moved on from Navigate, after twenty years dedication to this organisation. Kathryn is one of the founding members of Navigate and has been deeply and profoundly involved in environmental and social justice movements in the UK for over 35 years. She is going to develop new projects around sustaining ourselves as we confront the many crises we face and to create more space for caring responsibilities. We are hugely grateful for the work she did in establishing and sustaining us, and in the wider movement!

Jana Light also recently moved on from Navigate after four years. In that time they created new courses, mediated conflicts, guided internal processes, facilitated us and others and saved us when technology fails. They’ve now moved to Germany where there’ll be continuing to mediate, facilitate and train, as well as focusing on integrating somatic approaches into these fields.

Structure

Navigate is a Workers Co-operative, and we function as a ‘teal organisation’ - distributing decision making power according to areas of work, expertise, and capacity.
